How to Have a Beautiful Low Maintenance Garden

Having a garden can increase your curb appeal but also your enjoyment of the house. The summer months tend to be full with ideas on how to spruce up your home, and you might want to consider doing the same kind of dressing up to your garden as well.  There are lots of ways that you can do it and still keep it low maintenance, you just need to know which plants can give you that bright color with little effort and watering.

Focus on drought-tolerant plants

It makes sense that you might want a gorgeous garden with color, but without the maintenance.  This is especially so if you don’t exactly have the greenest thumb in the world.  Luckily, you are not alone!  To help prepare you for success in your garden this year, try to focus specifically on drought-tolerant plants.  These kinds of flowers and plants are intended to be neglected and only watered once in a while, so they’ll be able to keep their great appearance easily.

Here are some of the best examples that you can consider for your garden in order to keep it looking fantastic and not require much work from you at all.

Aloe Vera

This is a plant that will offer some vibrant greenery to your surroundings, but you can use it medicinally as well.  It’s great to soothing burns or rashes, and it will grow perfectly in lots of sunlight (direct or indirect), and only requires moderate or light watering.  If you are looking for a productive garden that is going to look great and offer you a practical purpose, too, this is a great cornerstone to consider!

Sage

Along that same line of thought is sage.  This is often used in cooking, and you can use this to dress up your foods as well as your garden itself.  You might want to plant this right after the last of the frost works itself out of the ground, and then you’ll be pleased to know that this only requires a little bit of watering.  Easy and pretty!

Poppies

Whether you might want to plant these in a garden bed or a pot, poppies are strong flowers that will easily grow in lots of sunshine and only a bit of watering.  These are bright and resilient against drought, so it can be a great option for your garden, especially in planters.

Bougainvillea

Considered to be one of the strongest flowers against drought, you can consider this for your garden as an option that only requires a tiny amount of water to survive.  That color certainly is incredible, and it can look great anywhere you might want to put it.

Agave

A cool water-resistant plant simply because of the neat shape of its leaves, this might make a great addition to your garden due to its fun shape and low requirements for water.  It will hold up against harsh weather and hot sun.

Who knew there were so many options out there that were drought-resistant and tough against the environment?  All of these can help make your garden look spectacular. A great thought, especially in the Florida heat is to find complementary plants that help keep the mosquitoes at bay as well.
